Cloud & Data Centre Services

Cloud, Hosting and Data Centre Services Built for South African Business

From cloud migration and hybrid architecture to secure colocation and built-in backup, we design, run and protect the platforms your business depends on. Every decision is made with cost, performance, resilience and POPIA compliance in mind.

Overview

Cloud and data centre done properly, not just lifted and shifted

Cloud and data centre services cover the platforms where your applications, data and workloads actually live, whether that is in Microsoft Azure, a private virtualised environment, a colocation rack in a Cape Town facility, or a hybrid blend of all three. Getting this layer right determines how fast your systems perform, how much you spend each month, how quickly you recover from an outage, and whether your data remains protected and compliant. It is the foundation everything else sits on.

For South African organisations, the stakes are particularly sharp. POPIA places real obligations on how and where personal information is stored and processed, load-shedding and connectivity disruptions test the resilience of any hosting model, and the rand cost of cloud consumption can spiral quickly when environments are over-provisioned or left unmanaged. A platform that is fast and cheap on paper can become expensive, exposed and brittle in practice if it is not designed and governed deliberately.

Virtueda approaches cloud and data centre as an engineering discipline rather than a once-off migration project. We assess your current estate, design the right mix of public cloud, private infrastructure and colocation for your workloads and budget, then migrate, secure and manage it on an ongoing basis. Backup, redundancy, monitoring and cloud security posture management are built in from the start, so your environment stays efficient, recoverable and aligned to your compliance obligations as it grows.

What's included

What our Cloud & Data Centre services include

Cloud migration and right-sizing

We plan and execute migrations to Azure and other platforms using an assess, design, migrate and optimise approach, choosing the right path for each workload, whether rehosting, re-platforming or refactoring. Right-sizing ensures you pay for the capacity you actually use rather than over-provisioned defaults.

Hybrid and multi-cloud architecture

Not every workload belongs in the public cloud. We design hybrid environments that keep sensitive or latency-critical systems on private infrastructure while using cloud elasticity where it makes sense, connected and managed as a single coherent estate.

Microsoft 365 and Azure

We deploy, secure and administer Microsoft 365 and Azure, covering identity and access, Entra ID, Conditional Access, email security, Teams, SharePoint and core Azure infrastructure services so your productivity and platform layers are properly configured and hardened.

Secure hosting and colocation

For organisations that need control over their hardware, we provide managed hosting and colocation in resilient data centre facilities with power redundancy, cooling, physical security and reliable connectivity, removing the burden of running your own server room.

Built-in backup and redundancy

Every environment we run includes structured backup, replication and redundancy designed around defined recovery objectives. Backups are tested, retained appropriately and protected against ransomware so that a failure or attack does not become a data-loss event.

Cloud security posture management

We continuously assess your cloud configuration against security best practice, identifying misconfigurations, excessive permissions, exposed storage and drift before they become incidents. Posture management keeps your environment hardened as it changes over time.

Workload and data protection

We secure the workloads themselves with encryption, network segmentation, identity-based access, logging and integration with our managed Security Operations Centre, so cloud and hosted systems are monitored for threats rather than left to fend for themselves.

Cost governance and monitoring

Ongoing monitoring of consumption, performance and spend keeps your environment efficient. We surface waste, recommend reserved capacity where it saves money, and give you clear visibility of what your cloud and data centre footprint actually costs.

How it works

How we engage

  1. 01

    Assess and discover

We map your current estate, applications, data flows and dependencies, then review performance, cost, resilience and compliance gaps. This gives us an honest baseline and identifies which workloads are suited to cloud, private infrastructure or colocation.

  2. 02

    Design and plan

We design the target architecture, including data residency, backup and recovery objectives, security controls and a right-sized capacity model. You receive a clear migration plan with sequencing, risk mitigation and expected cost outcomes before any change is made.

  3. 03

    Migrate and implement

We execute the migration or build in controlled phases, validating each workload and minimising disruption to the business. Security hardening, backup and monitoring are configured as part of the build rather than bolted on afterwards.

  4. 04

    Secure and optimise

Once live, we apply cloud security posture management, tune performance, right-size resources and confirm that backup and redundancy are working as designed. Optimisation continues so the environment stays cost-effective and secure.

  5. 05

    Manage and review

We provide ongoing monitoring, patching, backup verification and capacity management, with regular reviews of cost, performance and posture so your platform keeps pace with the business and its risk profile.

Why it matters

What this means for your business

Predictable, controlled cloud spend

Right-sizing, cost governance and ongoing monitoring stop runaway consumption, so you get the elasticity of cloud without the bill surprises that catch many South African organisations off guard.

Resilience against outages and load-shedding

Redundancy, replication and tested backups mean a hardware failure, ransomware attack or power disruption does not stop the business or cost you irreplaceable data.

Confidence in POPIA and data sovereignty

Deliberate decisions about where data lives and how it is protected help you meet your obligations under POPIA and demonstrate proper governance to regulators, auditors and customers.

Better performance for users and applications

Architecture matched to each workload, with the right capacity and connectivity, means faster systems and a better experience for staff and customers alike.

Reduced operational burden

We run the platform, the patching, the backups and the monitoring, freeing your team from infrastructure firefighting to focus on the work that moves the business forward.

A secure, monitored cloud estate

With posture management and SOC integration built in, your cloud and hosted workloads are continuously protected rather than left as an unmonitored blind spot.

FAQ

Cloud & Data Centre questions, answered

Still unsure? Talk to our team — we're happy to help.

It depends entirely on your workloads, costs and compliance needs, and a blanket lift-and-shift to public cloud is rarely the right answer. Some systems run more economically and predictably on private infrastructure or in colocation, while others benefit hugely from cloud elasticity. We assess each workload on its merits and usually recommend a hybrid model that places each system where it performs best, costs the least and meets your data-residency requirements.

We help you make deliberate, documented decisions about where personal information is stored and processed, which regions and data centres are used, and what security controls protect that data. We apply encryption, access controls, logging and retention policies aligned to POPIA principles, and we can keep sensitive data on South African or private infrastructure where data sovereignty is a concern. We help you meet your obligations rather than claiming to make you compliant on our own, since compliance also depends on your internal policies and processing activities.

Right-sizing means matching the compute, storage and capacity you provision to what your workloads genuinely need, rather than accepting oversized defaults or leaving idle resources running. In the cloud you pay for what you allocate, so over-provisioning quietly inflates your monthly rand spend, sometimes dramatically. We analyse real usage patterns, downsize where appropriate, use reserved or scheduled capacity where it saves money, and continue monitoring so the environment stays efficient as demand changes.

Backup and redundancy are designed into every environment we run, based on recovery objectives we agree with you, namely how much data you can afford to lose and how quickly you need to be back up. We use replication, structured retention and, critically, backups that are isolated and immutable where possible so that ransomware cannot encrypt or delete them. We also test restores, because an untested backup is only an assumption rather than a guarantee.

Cloud security posture management is the continuous assessment of your cloud configuration against security best practice to catch misconfigurations before attackers do. Cloud environments change constantly, and a single exposed storage bucket, over-permissive identity or open management port can create serious risk. Posture management flags these issues, prioritises them and helps you remediate, keeping your environment hardened as it evolves rather than only at the point of initial setup. For any organisation with meaningful cloud workloads, it is no longer optional.

We can take over and manage existing Azure, Microsoft 365 and hosted environments, not only those we build from scratch. A typical engagement starts with an assessment of your current estate to understand its configuration, security posture, cost profile and any technical debt. From there we stabilise, secure and optimise what you have, then manage it on an ongoing basis with monitoring, patching, backup verification and regular reviews.
